If you are on this page, that means you finished (finally!) your Greek Myth Facebook Assignment. If you CANNOT email me with your URL/ Web address, please leave your name, your God/Goddess/Monster's name, and the web address or URL in your post. By posting all three of those details on my blog as a comment, you are telling me you are completed with your project. This is also worth 10 points in my class. REMEMBER*** If you cannot email me your project, there are several options. Commenting on my blog here, sending me a message on Twitter, @mrSprader, or even call me. Thanks and please ask me if you have any questions. This assignment is due before 6AM on Monday...just like our Tween Tribune quizzes. Nowadays, Greek Mythology is still very popular and used in a variety of settings. Television shows are constantly being made based on our Gods and Goddesses and video games are showing the same monsters and demons that you learn about in school.
Your extra credit assignment, from now until Thanksgiving break, is to find a product or Greek Mythology allusion that is shown in our present time. This could be an advertisement for yougurt or maybe, your favorite type of candy. Respond to this post with the advertisement and the company's intended meaning by using that Greek character's name. EX. Gillette's Venus razors- They are using Venus' name (Aphrodite) to symbolize beauty, since she was the Greek/ Roman Goddess of beauty. As of recently, a lot of students are not coming prepared to class. This is one of my three rules, so it really irks me. Unfortunately, I am running out of pencils and pens to 'borrow' to students, because they are not returning them. So, in order to help others and start a chain reaction, this week's extra credit is to bring in extra pens or pencils for your classmates.
Thank you and have a good day! For extra credit this week and up until Monday, you can create a concrete poem. A concrete poem, like those examples below, creates a picture by putting together lines of poetry in a unique, organized way. Poem should show more creativity than one created in 5 minutes.
Today, we brainstormed a lot of ideas for our writers notebook. This list just offers suggestions as to what students can write about. While we did write down a lot of topics in class, there are some memories that students may forget about until the next day. As our notebooks do not leave my class, students can brainstorm more writing topics at home and bring them in tomorrow.
Yesterday marked the start of our poetry and figurative language unit with our very first pre-test. Exciting, right? The excerpt above is one of my favorite quotes, as it suggests that sometimes taking a new path may be very rewarding.
To help us start off our poetry right, I am challenging my students to submit or respond to this post with one of their favorite poems or a favorite piece of their favorite poem. Please keep it short as others may want to post their poem as well. Remember, extra credit is given for many things in class, and also is given to students who respond to blog postings. Write on! |
